The Samaritans Flag Day 23/03/2024 - The New Territories
Design Concept of the Flag Day Stickers
This year, the Samaritans has received support from the local renowned artist Mr Ronnie Lai Keung Wong, who designed a set of five unique stickers based on our key service areas. Through this initiative, we hope to further raise public awareness of different ways to support people in distress and the needs of different communities, and encourage participation in our volunteer services, focusing on the needs of different communities:
- 24-hour multi-lingual suicide prevention hotline
- Befriending emails
- Supporting the Aged Responsibly Programme
- Befrienders Worldwide Seafarers
- Community training
Emotional distress knows no gender, age, race, or time. Suicide is one of the leading causes of non-natural deaths in the Hong Kong population, and it has been on the rise in recent years. Despite limited resources, The Samaritans’ volunteers have been working tirelessly for 50 years to maintain 24-hour emotional support services in multiple languages, providing support to those in need through helplines and emails, especially during critical moments.
In response to the increasing suicide trend in Hong Kong in recent years, The Samaritans is also committed to outreach work, promoting public education to raise awareness of community mental health and encouraging individuals in need of emotional support to use our services.
